About Your Visit...

1.    What length of stay would you recommend?  What kind of costs are involved?

We recommend a maximum of 7 ministry days at GCH (not including travel days to and from Mexico).  Family teams should be slightly less. Visit our accommodations page for more information on staying in the GCH Dormitory.

2.    What is the maximum size group you can host at GCH?

On site we can house up to 28 people.  We recommend teams of 18 or less when working with the children, doing projects around the homes, or when working on construction projects. Teams doing outreach in the community should be around 15 or less.

3.    If we’re bringing our children, what is the youngest age you recommend?

We don’t recommend bringing children under 4 or those that require naps.

4.    Can we go to church with you and help somehow?

You are welcome to attend church with the children and can help in the children’s Sunday school rooms.  We also recommend a bilingual church close by where several GCH volunteers attend.

5.    Do we need to bring translators?

When working at GCH it is helpful to have a few people on your team that speak Spanish. If you plan to do community outreach, translators are necessary.

6.    Do you have a dress code?

  • Females – No tank tops, low cut tops, midriffs, ultra low-rise pants, or short-shorts.  Our preferred dress for females is:  Capri pants, Bermuda shorts or long pants, tee shirt with sleeves, and sturdy, closed toe shoes.  If you are coming to the beach or pool with us we ask that you wear a modest one-peice bathing suit.
  • Males – Must where shirts at all times.  Our preferred dress for males is: pants or long shorts, tee shirt and sturdy, closed toe shoes.

7.    Do you have safe drinking water or should we bring our own?

GCH can provide safe drinking water for your group while you are on site.

8.    What are some things we should plan to bring down?  What should we not bring?

  • Depending on what your team plans to do, you will need to coordinate with GCH to either bring all the materials for your projects, or if GCH provides the materials we ask that you underwrite the cost of those materials.
  • You will need two forms of identification. See our travel info page for more details.
  • You can use American dollars. There is no need to get pesos.
  • Don’t bring anything you can’t afford to lose.

9.    Can we take pictures of the children?

Yes.

10.    Can we bring candy or toys to give to the children?

We prefer you not give candy to our children as many have had dental problems prior to coming to GCH.  Toys are fine. No toy guns, swords or weapons.  Make sure to check with GCH staff prior to giving a child something.

11.    If I want to come and volunteer for a longer period of time can I?  Do you have an internship program?

Yes, see the “internship” page under the visit button.
